History

The  institution land between Beykoz-Riva was given to Admiral Abraham Eremyan (1833-1918) in the period of Sultan Abdüllaziz but later it was repurchased and registered as a public land by Sultan Abdülhamit.

​On the republic period, as well as seedling production, bilateral agreement were made by the Italian government to import exotic plants and trees which doesn't grow naturally in Turkey climate. So some exotic plants and trees were brought from abroad and planted to the land.

By the year 1934 the land was alloted to the Agriculture Department and the usage of it entrusted to the Special Provincial Administration. Before the land was transferred to our research center, it was used as nursery garden by the Special Administration.

Plant Biodiversity, Geophyte Research and Training Centre Directorate was founded by council administers decision number  2014/6087 on 16 th of April in 2014 and it has been operating in the Beykoz district  of Istanbul province.
