History

Our institute was established in 1926 under the branch of Mersin's "Chief of Plant Protection Laboratory," to conduct researches to solve the entomological problems in this area. The institute's first director was Haydar IRTEL who had been educated in entomology in Germany.

In order to find solutions to plant health problems in the region, the laboratory in Mersin was moved to Adana by the T.C. Ministry of Agriculture In 1931. This institution, which was named as "Seyhan Plant Protection Station" carried out the agricultural plant research and application studies for many years.

Later, the institution, which was named as "Agricultural Control Institute", was renamed in 1969 as "Adana Regional Plant Protection Research Institute" between the years 1987 and 2011.

Finally, as published in the Official Gazette No. 27958 dated 08.06.2011 of Food, Agriculture and Livestock Ministry on the Organization and Duties of the Decree Law No. 639; the name of our institution was changed to "Biological Control Research Station Directorate" and in May 2015, our institution retook the title as "Institute" and now under the name of "Biological Control Research Institute", it has been conducting researches on plant health since then.
