It is aimed to remove Turkey's foreign dependency in potato seed production and to make Turkey a seed production base with seed production studies in our institute. In this regard, the money paid for the potato seeds will stay in the country and contribute to the national economy in a big way. "
Uğur PIRLAK, the Institute Director who said that 5 domestic potato varieties have been registered so far and that the number of domestic varieties will increase in the coming years; "In our Tissue Culture Laboratory located in the Institute, seed production studies are continuing with the Meristem culture method. In our tissue culture laboratory, 15.000-20.000 in-vitro plantlets are produced annually and the in-vitro plants obtained are transferred to the fully controlled greenhouse to produce 50.000 units of super elite mini tubers, 10 tons of front elite and 100 tons of elite seeds.
In addition to this, new varieties that are developed continue to work to develop potato wart disease resistant varieties which are a big problem in potato production. The varieties determined to be resistant to the disease will be presented to our producers after the evaluations made and then submitted to the registry. "
