Department of Biological Control

  • It is the duty of the Department to determine the biological control factors in the management against diseases and pests that cause damage to plants, to carry out research on their protection, effectiveness and use of these factors.

    With this;

    • To produce biological control agents and their hosts and to use these agents in release studies,
    • To determine the biological control factors, which are our natural resources, and to create reserve areas for their sustainability,
    • Monitoring populations of harmful and beneficial organisms in changing environmental and climatic conditions,
    • To carry out ecological studies to monitor the positive or negative effects of agricultural activities on the ecosystem and the changes in their harmful-beneficial complexes,
    • To determine the side effects of pesticides used in agricultural products on beneficial organisms,
    • To create control programs by revealing the nutritional relations between biological control factors and host and plants.
    • To carry out studies to reveal the mechanisms that provide resistance to disease factors in plants in order to contribute to the studies on struggle.
    • To conduct research on beneficial fungi, bacteria, etc. microorganisms that are used in biological control against plant diseases,
    • To conduct research on microorganisms such as entomopathogenic fungi, bacteria, etc., which are used in biological control against plant pests,
    • To use biopesticides in the IPM,
    • To carry out formulation studies for the production of promising native microorganism isolates (fungi, bacteria, etc.) as biopesticides at the end of the researches.

    It is among its duties to ensure the integration of biological control study results into IPM programs.
