Department of Physiology and Toxicology

In Physiology and Toxicology Department, studies are carried out to determine resistance of insect, mite and fungus species to pesticides in agricultural areas. Bioassays, biochemical and molecular methods are used to determine resistance status of pesticides used against pest species. Projects, supported by The General Directorate of Agricultural Research And Policies, The Scientific and Technological Research Council Of Türkiye and universities, are carried out in field of study.

In addition to this;

In Plant Protection Products Registration Commission, the studies carried out on toxicology, eco-toxicology, soil-water-air behavior of plant protection products and their effects on users are investigated by the technical staff of the Department, risks in terms of human and environmental health are evaluated and It is ensured that necessary warnings are placed on plant protection product labels.

Based on registration process, studies are carried out to determine initial toxicity of pesticides, that will enter our country, on Aphis gossypii, A. pomi, A. punicae, Eurygaster spp., Helicoverpa armigera, Leptinotarsa decemlineata, Myzus. persicae, Trialeurodes vaporariorum, Tuta absoluta, Panonychus citri, P. ulmi, Tetranychus cinnabarinus, T. urticae, T. viennensis pest species.

Within the scope of training programs, trainings are provided on subjects of "Effects of Plant Protection Products on Human and Environmental Health", "Resistance Development Against Plant Protection Products in Pests".

In line with the department's specialty, technical consultancy services are provided to our Ministry, related institutions and organizations on pesticide toxicology, ecotoxicology, environmental fate and behavior of pesticides, exposure of users and consumers, resistance and resistance management in plant diseases and pests.

In the department, sustainable pesticide use is aimed by carrying out studies on determination and monitoring of pesticide resistance in harmful organisms and development of resistance management strategies.
