The bioecology and culture characteristics of the black sea trout were characterized by studies carried out in our institute since 1998. Under the project "Giving Black Sea Trout to the Producers (2007-2010)" live materials were given to a large number of fish farms so that the Black Sea trout farming became extensive in the Eastern Black Sea region. Private sector trainings on the aquaculture of Black Sea trout were held. In order to prevent the slow growth and larval stage losses experienced in practice, between 2011 and 2014 the project "Determination of Nutritional Requirements of Black Sea Trout" was carried out, and species-specific feed formulations were identified.
Together with the different studies, breeding projects which is our main target have been carried out. The cultural characteristics of the species were improved in keeping with the demands of aquaculture sector. The characteristics of the new culture line have been determined by studies on the fifth generation fish. Our studies are still continuing with the production of the sixth generation.
Characteristics of the new culture line Black Sea trout (SUMAE-1)
- Reaching sexual maturity later
- Higher fecundity
- Higher survival rate until the smolt stage
- Reaching to smolt stage earlier
- Rapid growth in seawater after smolt stage
- Individuals with natural body form
- Individuals who can receive feed from the water column and the pool floor
