The Authority, Duty and Liability

Despite the fact that, regional duty areas of station cover mainly Mersin, Adana, Osmaniye, Hatay, Antalya, Kahramanmaraş, Isparta and Burdur provinces in Mediterranean region,  its responsibility area covers all-over the Turkey. Main working topics of institute are citrus and other subtropical fruits, temperate fruits, vegetables, viticulture, ornamental plants, medicinal and aromatic plants, soil and water resources, and apiculture.

Alata HRS has the long term horticulture experience is an in-situ area for citrus species, olive, apricot, banana, fig, pomegranate, loquat, almond, and carob collections.

In order to obtain new species Alata HRS has rich gene pools of tomato, pepper, watermelon, summer squash, bean, lettuce, okra, and calabash.

The station is the best example of biodiversity with its endemic flora, fauna and ecotones. For that reason, Alata HRS has been declared as a 1st Degree Natural Conservation Area in 2000 by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

Alata HRS has considerable laboratory possibilities; such as Molecular Biology Lab, Genetic and Gene Technology Lab, Biotechnology Lab, Tissue Culture Lab, Instrumental Analyses Lab, Sensory Analyses Lab, Pomology Lab, Phytopathology Lab, Apiculture Lab , Leaf-Soil Analyses Lab, Fertilizer and Irrigation Water Analyses Lab, Plant Testing Unit, Postharvest Testing Unit and Genetic Material Conservation Unit.
