Short History​​

Erzincan Horticultural Research Institute was established with union of Directorate of Horticultural Research Production and Training Center (abolished) with Regional Plant Protection Research Institute (abolished) with rules dated 01/08/1986 belonging to Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and its studies were commenced on 1.5.1987.
With 03/06/2011 date and 639 Decree Law, our minsitration name was changed as; “MINISTRY OF FOOD, AGRICULTURE AND LIVESTOCK”,  the name of our General Directorate; “AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH AND POLICY GENERAL DIRECTORATE” the name of our institution; “DIRECTORATE OF HORTİCULTURAL RESEARCH STATION”. 
Our directorate is an institute which directly belongs to General Directorate of Agricultural Research and Policies of Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock.


The history of the organizations forming our Institute (abolished) is as follows.
Silk worm Production Station
Directorate of Horticulture Research, Production and Training Center 
In 1927, for the first time was established under the name, " Tali Mıntıka Mektebi " and then under the names of
-" Silk worm Production Station"
-" Instructor Training School "
-" Trial Production Station " were operated. Then  in  1939 yılında it combined with nursery established in Bahçeliköy. It was made to restructuring as "District Agricultural School" in 1961. It was  converted to “Horticulture Research, Production and Training Center” by being closed  "District Agricultural School" in 1983 

Directorate of Regional Agricultural Protection Research Institute
The Institute which operated at buildings made on the land of  "Agricultural School" in 1977: has been in successful activities in Erzincan, Erzurum, Kars, Ağrı, Sivas, Gümüşhane and Tunceli provinces in issues of plant pest and disease.

Our institution has the vision to produce by using information and technology with universal nature, plan, and conduct investigations for solving problems encountered in regional and territorial agriculture and convey its results.   
We have the mission to be a representative institution which provide source and value for our shareholders, employees and country within the framework of this vision we have specified.

Study Subjects​

Regional Task Area: Erzincan, Erzurum, Malatya, Elazığ, Muş, Bingöl, Bitlis, Van, Gümüşhane, Bayburt, Ardahan, Kars, Ağrı, Iğdır, Sivas, Tunceli,
Task Topics: Fruit growing, viticulture, vegetable, ornamental plants, edible legumes, medicinal aromatic plants, plant health (phytopatology) and soil water resources;
1-With breeding and growing techniques, in accordance with market demands new variety, line, improve quality and productivity
2-Agricultural mechanization and information technology, precision agricultural techniques and early warning systems, plant nutrition and increase efficiency in agricultural control, Harvest and post-harvest research to reduce product losses
3-To ensure The registration of varieties developed in result of breeding studies  and the continuity of the breeding material, 

4-To form 1 and 2 numbered parcels which are basis for certification in varieties owned, to maintain the base material, to transfer qualified propagating materials to demanding nurseries

5-To conduct studies on subjects of the collection conservation, identification, cultuvation if necessary  and usage  in breeding programs of plant genetic resources including mainly berry and rosehip to ensure the sustainable use and the protection of biodiversity in the task area
6-To  produce registered  fruit seedlings to all of the East Anatolia Region
7-To take roles in the struggle mainly sunn pest and dust mites, important pests of grain in East Anatolia Region
8-To take part in the preparation of agricultural protection technical instructions and standard spray test methods  about the harmful organisms

9-To determine the intensity, distribution, identification and injury level of harmful organisms that damage crops
10-To put forward the most effective and economical struggle methods by studying the biology, bio-ecology and epidemiology of harmful organisms and to convey to producers through the application organizations
11-To develop appropriate methods and technologies for the efficient use of water in agriculture
12-To investigate the effects on soil fertility and quality of soil regulators  with plant nutrients and to develop proper fertilization techniques

13-To monitor, observe the vegetation in the main group of plants that institution is charged with and  to make preventing recommendations of potential crises to decision-makers by preparing reports including crop estimation in growth and harvest periods
  Our directorate is making necessary studies to ensure a positive contribution to the region's economy,  effectively combate pests and diseases in the region, ensure gain of new varieties to regional agriculture, maintain the natural balance with integrated pest management methods for  carring  out and making a result the necessary research project about fruits, vegetables, ornamental plants, viticulture, breeding techniques, breeding and genetics the diseases and pests. 

  Our institute has regional responsibility in agricultural management and in Erzincan, Erzurum, Gümüşhane, Bayburt, Kars, Ağrı, Iğdır, Ardahan and Tunceli provinces necessary studies related to Diseases and Pests are carried out,  contacts with the Provincial Directorates are established and both theoretical and practical training seminars about agricultural struggle are organized. Our institute serves as coordinator of the institute  to help in issues that provincial directorates wanted to be solved and in Ağrı province and its districts, in  determination of sunn pest survey time, controlling of its results, and determination of beginning of spraying time with province directorate. the survey of sunn pest management in Ağrı provice and potato cancer desease in East Anatolia Region  which are necessary tasks given by General Directorate of Protection and Control have been conducted. Also, in East Anatolia Region, analysis of diseases with quarantine the for potatoes export were given to our institute.

  Moreover, in Horticultural Breeding and Growing; Erzincan, Erzurum, Malatya, Elazığ, Muş, Bingöl, Bitlis, Van, Gümüşhane, Bayburt, Ardahan, Kars, Ağrı, Iğdır, Sivas, Tunceli, is in responsibility field of  Our Directorate
